1920's Silver Bullion Evening Wig

Silver Bullion Evening Wig, Circa 1920s

This remarkable and highly unusual wig once belonged to Elda Capocci — a young, eccentric woman from Milan who lived an extraordinary life but tragically passed away far too soon, at the age of 30 in 1931. At the time, Elda was known as a tarot card reader, medium, and fortune teller, working under her artistic name Myriam. She clearly loved the finer things in life, as this exquisite silver bullion wig shows.

Even today, the wig retains its original shine and still sparkles in the light, just as it must have done when Elda wore it to dazzle her clients and admirers. I am fortunate to have two beautiful photographs of her wearing this very piece — in one, she poses glamorously in a stunning gown.

Elda also loved luxurious places and was a regular at fashionable grand hotels with spas, such as the famous Grand Hotel San Pellegrino — a true jewel of the Belle Époque. Records show her name appears several times in the hotel’s guest journals of the era, alongside high-ranking and well-known visitors.

With its fascinating history and exceptional condition, this silver bullion wig is a true gem in my collection — a shimmering echo of the glittering nights of the Belle Époque.
